Typically chain letters consists of a message that attempts to induce the recipient to make a number of copies of the letter and then pass it on to as many recipients as possible. Common methods used in chain letters propagation include email, regular mail and online advertisings. These type of communication is considered to be emotionally manipulative stories, get-rich-quick pyramid schemes, and the exploitation of superstition to threaten the recipient with bad luck or even physical violence or death if he or she "breaks the chain" and refuses to adhere to the conditions set out in the letter. Also Chain letters are a waste of time and money.
By definition a chain letter is about directing the recipient to send out multiple copies so that its circulation increases exponentially. By its very nature chain letters are dangerous because of the resources that it takes to stop its progression and the time it takes for each recipient to read and either destroy it or pass it along. In addition, they can cause damage to an organization’s reputation when associated with a legitimate company or cause, besides implies high monetary cost and IT-budgets to maintain mail servers and company networks free of this type of spam. It is very difficult if not impossible to determine who the originator of the chain letter is.
The primary purpose of a commercial chain letter is to take your money. It isn’t to share wealth, profits or information. Some chain letters sell reports about credit, mail order sales, mailing lists or anything else that can get your attention. Other chain letters want you to send money to names and addresses specified. If you receive a chain letter, you should delete it to stop the chain from your point. Don’t resend the letter and neither reply to it. If you are an employee in a company, let your system administrator know about the letter so that he can warn others. REMEMBER, it is against American law to conduct gambling through electronic networks or by offers through email or postal mail.
